Before you go, you should know

6 Tips to keep you stress-free when moving house or relocating

Moving house or undergoing an international relocation is one of the most stressful things you can do, even with the help of a Dubai moving company. Whether you are moving home locally within the UAE or are relocating to another country, the most important thing is to be organized and prepared ahead of time. If you break down the tasks and avoid tackling them all in the weeks leading up to your move, you will be extremely thankful.

With these useful pointers, you will be well equipped before you start moving, on the things you need to know for a smooth house move or relocation in or from Dubai.

1- Make lists to ease stress

Any moving task is made less stressful if you put together a ‘to-do’ list ahead of time. The lists for moving house and relocation will be extensive, but once everything is on paper, you will be able to check things off as you go and avoid forgetting anything when you leave your Dubai home.  The lists for relocation will be more extensive than the list for moving house, but both will be extremely useful.

2- Leave enough time to cancel your contracts before moving

If you are moving house within the UAE, you need to tell your landlord that you will not be renewing your lease at least three months before its end date. Once this is done, you will be able to arrange a date with them when they will be coming to inspect the property. For Dubai Water and Electricity Authority (DEWA), you will need to go to your local office to cancel your contract. Once done your water and electricity will be turned off the same day and your final bill will be ready for collection within two working days. If you have TV or Internet services, for example with Du, you will need to visit your nearest branch to cancel your contract, and again your final bill will be ready within 48 hours.  Remember to keep your receipts for water, electricity and Internet once you have paid the final bills, as you will need to send a copy of these to the landlord as proof of payment after moving out.

3- Organize your belongings ahead of time

Over the years we all accumulate a mass of belongings that are, for the most part, stored away and forgotten about, especially for those with large families in Dubai. Start your moving out or relocation packing 6-8 weeks ahead of time, so you can really sort out your things before you have to leave the property and get in a moving company. Any unwanted clothes can be given to local clothes banks for charity or you can even sell anything you do not need on the internet or through various social media groups. If you are relocating internationally, you will need to work out approximately how much you have to bring with you in order to organize your international moving company correctly.

4- Book the Dubai moving company

If you book your moving company and Dubai movers well in advance, this will give you a solid date to work towards. If you are moving internationally, outside of Dubai, research relocation companies and ensure the one you choose has a good reputation for relocating families. Most relocation companies will come to your home to analyze the amount of goods you have before they provide you with a quote for their services. It is a good idea to get more than one quote so you can compare them before you make your final decision. Remember to ask the exact process and end delivery dates before you sign anything, so you are not left with any surprises, and always look into insurance options. If you are moving house within Dubai, the same applies but on a smaller scale, with moving companies. Search around for the best Dubai moving company at an affordable price, and always go with a moving company that is well recognized.

5- Consider relocation for your Dubai pets

Many people do not realize that different countries have different policies for the relocation of domestic animals. For example, bringing your pet from Dubai to Australia can take up to 6 months, whereas sending them to the UK is relatively simple. Research your relocation options ahead of time, so you are not left with ongoing kennel or boarding costs when you move from Dubai.

6- Hire a handyman in Dubai

If you are moving out of rented accommodation in Dubai, you need to make sure the property is in exactly the same condition as it was in when you moved in. Check the exact details with your landlord, but you may be required to repaint walls or even clean inside the AC units before you start moving, so finding a handyman is a must. The bare minimum required will be a deep clean and to fix anything that is broken, so make sure you organize a Dubai handyman and cleaning company to come in before you switch off your water and electricity. You do not want there to be anything which could stop you receiving your full deposit back from your Dubai landlord, so spend time to go over every aspect of the property in detail with the handyman in tow, before you get your moving company in.
